Morse Code Image Translator
A Morse code image translator is a tool that finds the dots and dashes in a picture and turns them into text. Upload, drop or paste a photo, screenshot or scan, and the translator boxes every mark it reads.
Your image appears here with every detected mark boxed.

Green boxes are dots, blue boxes are dashes and red boxes are word slashes. Adjust the ink threshold for faint or busy photos.
It also works the other way: type a message and the translator draws it as a clean Morse code image in 3 styles, ready to download as a PNG.

What Is a Morse Code Image Translator?
A Morse code image translator is a visual decoder that measures the shape and spacing of marks in an image. Round marks are dots, marks about 3 times wider than they are tall are dashes, and the spaces between marks separate letters and words.
It reads Morse drawn in dots and dashes — on paper, a wall, a bracelet, a screen or a puzzle — rather than typed letters, so no text recognition is needed.
How a picture is read
The scanner finds each mark, classifies it by shape, and groups marks into letters.
Press Scan to sweep the image, then Detect and Read.
02
How the Image Reader Finds Dots and Dashes
The image reader works in 5 steps: greyscale, threshold, find marks, sort rows and measure gaps. It converts the picture to grey, splits ink from background, outlines every connected mark, groups marks into rows, and reads widths and gaps like the timing of a sound.
Specks much smaller than a typical mark are ignored, so dust, paper grain and JPEG noise do not become extra dots.

Each pixel's colour becomes one brightness value from 0 to 255.

Images That Translate Best
Images translate best when the marks are dark on a plain light background, or light on a plain dark one, with clear space between letters. Crop the photo to the Morse code and keep the camera straight above it.
Curved surfaces such as rings and bracelets work if each row stays roughly level in the photo.
Image types and what to expect
| Image | Result | Tip |
|---|---|---|
| Screenshot | Excellent | Paste it straight in with Ctrl + V |
| Printed page | Excellent | Photograph in daylight without shadows |
| Handwriting | Good | Leave a finger's width between letters |
| Jewellery or tattoo | Fair | Crop tight and keep the row level |
| Typed . and - text | Fair | Use the Morse to text decoder instead |

Make a Morse Code Image
To make a Morse code image, switch to Make an image, type your text and download the PNG. The translator draws round dots and pill-shaped dashes with the letters underneath, in a night, paper or neon style.
The images use real Morse proportions — a dash is 3 dots long — so they can be read back by this translator and by people.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
How do I translate Morse code from a picture?
To translate Morse code from a picture, upload, drop or paste the image into the translator. It boxes each dot and dash and shows the decoded text. Adjust the ink threshold if marks are missing.
Can I paste a screenshot of Morse code?
Yes, press Ctrl + V (or Cmd + V) anywhere on the page after copying a screenshot. The translator reads the image straight from your clipboard.
Why are some dots read as dashes?
Dots are read as dashes when they are stretched or touching. Blurry photos and marks drawn too close together merge. Retake the photo sharper or leave more space between marks.
Can the translator read Morse code bracelets and tattoos?
Yes, if the beads or marks contrast with the background and each row is roughly level. Crop the photo tightly around the code for the best result.
How do I make a Morse code image?
Choose Make an image, type your text, pick a style and press Download PNG. The image shows dots, dashes and optional letters, at up to 3 times normal size.
Are my images uploaded?
No, images are processed only in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server.
